For the first time during the culpable homicide trial of Hassan Amat, 52, the court yesterday heard a clear sequence of events that led to the death of Mr Mohamad Noraidi Zahari, who died in a fight between two gangs in July 2010, at Orchard Plaza.
Prosecution witness Shariff Hussain Shariffudin, 22, described how he went to a bar that day to drink with his friend and heard the bouncer talk about a fight that would take place that day.
He thought that it was going to be a normal fight and would not involve any weapons.
But he ended up holding a knife and being with others at the lift lobby when a chair was thrown at Mr Noraidi.
