It is not unusual for a news anchor to get fan mails and requests for autographs.

So Miss Joanne Lee, then a TV news anchor, thought nothing of it when a fan had approached her for her autograph in 2005.

But Amy Chua was not a normal fan. She was suffering from schizophrenia and her obsession with Miss Lee caused the journalist years of distress and anxiety.

She would call Miss Lee at the office and leave multiple voicemails within a day. Miss Lee once received 21 voicemails in a single day. On another day, Chua called her 16 times.

The harassment stopped after Chua was fined last April, but Miss Lee, 37, still feels anxious and wants to share her story to raise public awareness about stalking. She also wants tougher harassment laws in Singapore.
