Park the Torres in front of goal

You know the old saying. You wait 24 hours and 34 minutes for a bus and two come at once. But in the case of Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, who scored two goals against Leicester in the FA Cup, the analogy is off.

When a bus arrives, the driver usually pulls over gently by the kerb. He doesn’t mishit the brake, bobble along the bus lane and crawl past the passengers.

Despite his poor record - seven goals in 52 appearances - Torres and Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo polished the oldest of chestnuts by claiming that the forward had been contributing in other ways to the team’s performances.

His goals are just a bonus. We should be grateful when Torres obliges with the occasional goal, like an extra feature on a DVD.

In the end though, Torres conceded that, with or without sacked Andre Villas-Boas tearing at the very fabric of human civilisation, he must score more often.
