According to a well-placed source at Melwood, Liverpool’s interest in Theo Walcott (above) is absolutely genuine.

With the Arsenal winger’s contract due to expire at the end of next season and no new deal in sight, Brendan Rodgers is looking to capitalise on the uncertainty.

It could be argued, however, that the man who really needs to capitalise is Walcott himself.

He’ll be 24 when his Emirates contract runs out and he still hasn’t fulfilled the potential he showed as a youngster.
