President Nathan's quiet approach

HE'S HELD the highest office in Singapore for 12 years, helping people through his charity work as well as small and medium-sized enterprises during the time.

Yet, President S R Nathan went about his stately affairs with little fanfare, quietly exercising the powers granted him as Head of State.

Some 250 other ministers and members of parliament, paid tribute to the outgoing President during a farewell dinner at the Istana last night.

Among them, MP (Sembawang) Vikram Nair told The New Paper of his admiration for the way President Nathan uses his power to unify the people.
