Railings installed at drain

THE RAIN has stopped, the railings have gone up.

Additional barriers were placed yesterday along the stretch of drain at the junction of Mandalay and Minbu Roads following the drowning of 15-year-old Indonesian schoolboy William (above), with more railings scheduled to be put up by the first quarter of next year.

Although the measures taken to enhance safety were welcomed, residents from the Whampoa area where the drowning occurred have been left wondering if the incident could have have been prevented had action been taken earlier.
