Restructuring of ministries shows Government's focus on family

Social workers, political observers and a minister of state have welcomed the Government’s focus on the family as a key social unit, following Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s announcement yesterday that two ministries will be restructured.

The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts will be reorganised to form three ministries: the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the Ministry of Communications and Information, and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

But some have expressed concern that the word "sports" has been dropped from the name of the ministry and worry that sports will be sidelined with the new developments.
