After an international conference on patient rehabilitation in 2007, assistant nursing director K. Patmawali and principal physiotherapist Lim Pang Hung of the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Rehabilitation Centre wanted to do more for their patients.

Their "eureka" moment came as the plane they were in was taxiing on the runway.

Five years on, under the Let’s Walk programme, there are three "runways" outside the wards to help patients recover.

Rehab exercises are conducted on customised tracks with distance markers and other cues and the programme has helped shorten patients’ stay in hospital.
