Should tuition industry be regulated?

August 2, 2012 - 1:35am

Mr Law Han Wei, an owner of a tuition agency, first started out as a private tutor more than 10 years ago.

He told The New Paper that he was once asked by a tuition agency to lie that he was a university undergraduate, even though he was from a polytechnic.

The Consumers Association of Singapore said that complaints against the industry, although small, seem to be creeping up.

Just a few days ago, a private tutor and owner of a tuition centre was told by the Ministry of Education to remove claims from his website that he was a student and teacher of the Gifted Education Programme.

We ask industry players, parents and MPs for their opinions on whether the tuition industry should be regulated.
