Singapore Rugby Union president Low Teo Ping is not worried about the Rugby Lions’ recent relegation from the Asian Five Nations Division I and slipping to 67th in the world rankings, the lowest in years.
He explains that the national team are in a rebuilding process with the intention to develop a Singaporean national team, although the team will not summarily dismiss the inclusion of expatriates.
He does not consider the relegation as a disaster, urging critics to give the SRU time to groom more local players and widen the base of players through different initiatives, which should bear fruits in two to three years' time.
Among the plans are to promote the game among primary and secondary school students, enlarging the local leagues and reviving the friendly matches with Johor sides.
