He was due to depart Singapore to compete in the SEA Games in two days when the unthinkable happened.
National downhill mountain biker Ian Krempl had his $15,000 race bike stolen.
Mr Krempl’s bike was among three others - another mountain bike and two BMXes – that were stolen when the office at the Tampines Bike Park was broken into on Nov 5.
The bikes belonged to staff at the park. A police report was also lodged later that day.
Mr Krempl ended up racing on a friend’s bike. He came in fifth in the mountain bike downhill event, just five seconds shy of a podium finish.
His teammate, Mr Tan Hong Chun, was even closer, coming in fourth – a mere second away from a bronze medal.
