US President Barack Obama confirmed Osama bin Laden's death yesterday.
The man behind the Sept 11 2001 terror attack on New York's World Trade Center was killed in a firefight in his compound in Pakistan.
The compound is in Abbotabad, Pakistan, which is not far from the country's capital Islamabad.
A senior White House official described the compound as "extraordinarily unique" and being "roughly eight times larger than the other homes in the area".
The official also added that based on their assessment, bin Laden was living there with several family members, including his youngest wife.
Yesterday, the Associated Press and CNN reported that bin Laden's body had been buried at sea.
