Thai girl gets farewell fit for a celebrity

It was a farewell fit for a celebrity.

But this was no star of stage or screen. She was 14-year-old Peneakchanasak Nitcharee, whose tragic accident struck such a chord among Singaporeans that they responded spontaneously at Changi Airport’s Budget Terminal yesterday.

Strangers who spotted her at the budget terminal before her flight to Bangkok yesterday rushed up to her to bid farewell and wish her well.

Some pushed wads of cash into her hands as they patted her shoulder and whispered words of encouragement.
