Then & Now: He couldn't play catch as a kid, today he races among the best

When once he couldn’t keep up with his childhood friends during play time, this kid with a spinal disorder grew up to race among the world’s best.

As soon as he was old enough to understand, he knew he was different.

Playing “catch” in his HDB estate with the other boys was out of the question.

Mr Muhammad Firdaus Nordin was born with spina bifida – a congenital condition where a baby’s spinal cord is not developed properly. His legs have remained undeveloped since birth.

Yet, his condition has not slowed him down.

Today he holds his own against some of the world’s best athletes.
