Thousands throng Istana Open House to say farewell

THOUSANDS of visitors made their way to the Istana to catch their final glimpses of Mr S R Nathan as the President of Singapore.

Even an intermittent drizzle couldn't discourage the more than 18,500 visitors who attended the Istana Open House yesterday - Mr Nathan's last before he makes way for President-elect Tony Tan on Thursday.

The scores of people allowed Mr Nathan, 87, to do one of the things he loves most - meeting people from all walks of life.
