Ms Poh Chee Lien (above) was just 19 years old and fresh out of a polytechnic when she was posted to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) to serve a three-year bond there.
But she was so inspired that the three years turned into 17, and working at IMH became her first and only job.
Yesterday, the 36-year-old assistant director of nursing and education was one of three nurses to win the President’s Award for Nurses.
The other two are Miss Lian Siew Bee, 42, an advanced practice nurse who has been with Singapore General Hospital for 19 years, and Ms Teresa Ng, 44, a senior nurse clinician in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital's breast department.
