PRESCHOOL teacher Nurulhuda A. Aziz and her husband yesterday got a $3,000 TNP Bingo boost for their Hari Raya celebrations later this month.
It had seemed like any other day when Madam Nurulhuda, who was fasting, bought a copy of The New Paper at Bedok bus interchange during the time of her lunch break.
But the day quickly turned extraordinary – all five numbers that she needed to win were in the newspaper.
Madam Nurulhuda, 28, could not believe her eyes. She quickly called her husband, Mr Khamarizal Razali, also 28, a courier driver who was sick and resting at their home in the Chai Chee area. He rushed to meet her.
She said: “I had to ask my husband to check the card again just to make sure and when he confirmed that we won, I was so happy.
“Winning $3,000 is a lot more money than I expected because usually, the cash prize is only $1,000 daily. I didn’t expect it to snowball to $3,000 at all and definitely didn’t expect towin.”
After saving a portion, the couple intends to spend the rest on Hari Raya clothing and food.
The couple were at the SPH Media Centre in Genting Lane to claim the Bingo contest prize last night.
The Bingo contest is TNP’s way of thanking and rewarding its loyal readers. The contest will be extended for a week, ending only on Aug 12.
To play, readers need to get a Bingo card, which is attached to the front page of TNP every Monday.
Each copy of the newspaper will have a card with a unique sequence of numbers. The card will be valid for that week only.
From Tuesday to Sunday, 10 random numbers from one to 99 will appear each day in the newspaper.
A vertical column (from top to bottom) of matching numbers on the card entitles you to the prize shown on top of that column.
Prizes must be claimed by 9pm on the same day and can be collected from the Circulation Division at SPH Media Centre, 82, Genting Lane.
