HE BOUGHT four copies of The New Paper on Monday to get four Bingo cards to increase his chances of winning a prize in TNP’s bingo game. And it paid off.
Mr Lin Zhixiang, 28, was the proud owner of an Xbox 4GB Kinect bundle yesterday.
The Singapore Institute of Management student bought a copy of yesterday’s paper at a 7-Eleven store during his lunch break.
To his delight, the five numbers that he needed to win were in the copy.
“I didn’t think I would win, I was just trying my luck,” he said.
He has been following the contest since it started, but this is the first week that he has “played properly”.
He said: “At first, I thought I had to match the numbers of every single column. I went to read the rules again and found that I was doing it wrongly. I probably wasted a couple of chances in the previous weeks.”
This time, he got it right. And after double-checking the numbers, he went to the SPH Media Centre to claim his prize.
He installed the Xbox the moment he got home last night.
Mr Lin, who will continue trying his luck in the contest, said: “It comes with two games, so I am trying them out.
“Now that I have the box, I’ll buy more games and invite my friends over.”
Meanwhile, Ms Chua Siew Ling, 34, rushed to the Media Centre with her Bingo card. She reached there at about 8.30pm and when she left, she was $5,000 richer.
Said the administrative executive: “I couldn’t believe it, and I still can’t. I’m extremely happy.”
She, too, had matched the Bingo numbers during her lunch break, but waited until she had finished work before claiming her prize.
“I checked the numbers five times, in case my eyes were playing tricks on me,” said MsChua, who has been reading TNP for more than 20 years.
She plans to take a short trip with her family and save the rest for her son’s education.
She said: “I’m really thankful for the money. I’m usually not that lucky, so hopefully this means I’ll be luckier in the future.”
To take part in the contest, readers need to get a Bingo card, which was attached to the front page of TNP on Monday.
The Monday issue can still be bought at Buzz Pods at Golden Shoe, Plaza Singapura, Sun Plaza, Holland Village MRT and Boon Lay, Jurong East, Bedok, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Serangoon bus interchanges.
From Tuesday to Sunday, 10 numbers appear each day in the newspaper.
A vertical column of matching numbers on the card entitles you to the prize shown on top of that column.
Prizes must be claimed by 9pm on the same day from the Circulation Division at SPH Media Centre, at 82, Genting Lane.
The Bingo contest is TNP’s way of thanking and rewarding its loyal readers. It was extended for a week and will end this Sunday.
