The statistics make for grim reading: 225,550 summonses were issued for speeding last year, while another 17,490 were handed out for beating the lights, according to the Traffic Police.

Millions of dollars in fines have been slapped on errant motorists.

And the Traffic Police warn that they are not letting their guards down, deploying the latest high-speed cameras and more officers at dangerous junctions.
