For about an hour in Parliament yesterday, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew fielded questions on the findings of the Committee of Inquiry (COI) into the disruption of train services last December, which affected more than 200,000 commuters.
He was peppered with questions on the shortcomings of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT.
Mr Lui said that the Ministry of Transport accepts the COI findings.
He also said that LTA fell short in its responsibility to hold the operator (SMRT) accountable for delivering a reliable system for the commuters, and that it must do better.
The LTA will carry out separate investigations into the incidents. The outcomes and the penalties meted out to SMRT will be announced soon.
