PICTURE: MR PHILLIP TAN

Mr Phillip Tan, 35, found his father's old photo album while cleaning his house and was inspired to shoot a picture dedicated to Singaporeans like his 72-year-old father, Mr Tan Eng Hock, who was a shipyard worker.

His picture of his father holding a picture of himself at age 23 in one hand and a commemorative medal marking Singapore's independence from Britain on Aug 31, 1963, won this week's Big Picture contest, themed "We, the Citizens".

He earned the weekly $500 prize of this year-long contest organised by The New Paper and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts to encourage Singaporeans to document their city through photographs.
