United close in on de Gea

MANCHESTER United are close to making their first signing of the summer after Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that a deal for goalkeeper David de Gea was being done.

The highly-rated Atletico Madrid shot stopper has been linked with the Red Devils throughout the season to succeed Edwin van der Sar, with Ferguson confirming the rumours following Gary Neville's testimonial match.

The United boss believes that the 20-year-old possesses all the right qualities to fill the void left by Dutchman van der Sar, who will retire in the summer.
