A Workers’ Party document which details minutes of its central executive council meeting on May 12 last year was leaked to the media by someone who calls himself Secret Squirrel.
The meeting was to decide on the two Non-Constituency Member of Parliament seats offered to the party after the General Election.
The minutes showed that a secret ballot was held to determine who from the five-member East Coast GRC team would take up one of the seats. Hougang by-election candidate Png Eng Huat got one vote.
This contradicts what Mr Png told Channel NewsAsia in an interview on Monday. He said he "took (his) name out of the ballot" as he was against the NCMP scheme.
Mr Png yesterday clarified with reporters what he said on Monday. And at the rally, he outlined his plans for Hougang.
Also at the rally, WP chief Low Thia Khiang lashed out at Secret Squirrel.
