PHOTO: ONG YI CHAO

In the past year, freelance graphic designer Ong Yi Chao, 26, captured more than a thousand images of the various activities at these benches at the bottom of his block on Upper Cross Street.

And one of them has won him this month's The Big Picture contest, organised by The New Paper and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts to encourage Singaporeans to document the city they live in.

This is Mr Ong's fourth Big Picture win and his third win with photos taken of his neighbourhood.

It is possible for contestants to win several times because the weekly panel of judges are presented with only the images and accompanying captions but not the photographers' identities.
