The Workers' Party rally last night at Serangoon Stadium had a "pasar malam" atmosphere with makeshift stalls enjoying brisk business and people streaming in after work despite the threat of rain.
Ice-cream sellers like Mr Neo Soon An, 51, who said he's been following the rally crowds since 2001, were joined by other vendors selling drinks and muah chee.
Mr Ricky Tan, 70, a retiree had travelled from Ang Mo Kio to catch the rally. He was bored at home and figured an opposition rally would be more boisterous. He said: "The atmosphere here really is like a pasar malam. So many people hanging around the stadium like they're watching World Cup Final."
