In the run-up to the Hougang by-election next Saturday, the Workers’ Party (WP) and People’s Action Party (PAP) ran a campaign on issues like opposition representation and the need for a wet market and avoided mentioning the man who sparked the need for the by-election: Mr Yaw Shin Leong (above).
Then Mr Yaw yesterday sent a statement apologising for the inconvenience he caused Hougang voters.
WP tried to distance itself from him by saying on its Facebook page that he is no longer a member.
PAP candidate Desmond Choo said the by-election fight is between him and his WP opponent, Mr Png Eng Huat.
A political observer called it a weak apology while a Hougang resident said it should have been done earlier.
