9 great Chris Rock jokes from the BET awards

Comedian Chris Rock hit the right notes at the 2014 BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (June 29.)

He threw jokes and jibes at the likes of Justin Bieber, Solange Knowles, Oprah Winfrey and Clippers owner Donald Sterling. He also handed out chicken and waffles to the audience, imitating Ellen DeGeneres’ pizza stunt during this year’s Oscars.

The BET awards, held in Los Angeles, celebrates black musicians, actors and athletes. It is hosted by cable TV network Black Entertainment Television, part of Viacom Inc.

Here are some of the best jokes sourced from E!Online and zap2it.com since we didn't get a chance to watch the whole thing:

1 On Justin Bieber (below), as he welcomed Usher to the stage:

 Justin Bieber

"Usher had discovered and now he's going to spend the rest of his life apologising for it."

2 On why the BET Awards are different from other entertainment award shows:

"You're gonna see something you never see -- you're gonna see black artists getting credit for something they created.'

3 On the success of The Butler, which starred Forest Whitaker:

"If you make a civil rights movie and white people like it, it's not a good movie."

Oprah Winfrey

4 On Oprah Winfrey (above) not winning for her performance in the Butler:

"That acting job was amazing because she had to imagine she was poor!"

5  On an alternate title for the BET Awards:

"The Black World Cup."

6 On embattled Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling (below):

"An 83-year-old white man doesn't like black people? Is that news?"

"A black man couldn't look him in the eye until he was 45. The first black man he ever met, he got for Christmas."

Donald Sterling

7 On Donald Sterling, again:

"All he said was, 'I don't want my woman around black basketball players.'

Me neither!"

Solange
8 On the elevator incident involving Beyonce's sister Solange (above) and husband Jay Z:

"Solange hit the right rapper — Jay's a businessman now, he can't just go punching girls in the face—he's got a meeting with Nabisco in the morning."

9 On why ABC series Scandal is such a hit:

"A lot of people think scandal is a hit because of Kerry [Washington], and she's great in it.

But the real reason 'Scandal's' a hit is because every Thursday at 10:00 there's a white president. ... For one hour, it's back to normal."
