Big Bang boys crack jokes despite bandmate's car crash
They laughed. They joked. One even danced.
One of their bandmates had just been in what could have been a horrific accident, but the other members of K-pop boy band Big Bang were not showing any signs of it.
The shocking news of yet another car accident struck and filtered down the K-pop industry yesterday morning.
Seungri of Big Bang was reported to be driving his Porsche along an expressway in Seoul around 3am yesterday when his car suddenly cut across three lanes and hit a Mercedes-Benz in front.
The collision caused the 24-year-old idol's vehicle to hit the guardrail at the side and flip over.
Korean media outlets reported that Seungri did not suffer any serious injuries, but is hospitalised for a week as he suffered minor internal bleeding.
The news came two weeks after Korean girl group Ladies' Code was in a tragic accident which killed two of the five - EunB and RiSe.
It also came a day ahead of the YG Family 2014 Galaxy Tour in Singapore, which will see A-list acts from top Korean talent agency YG Entertainment come together for a two-night concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium this weekend.
The artists performing at the star-studded tour include girl group 2NE1, Psy, Epik High, rookie boyband Winner and of course, Big Bang.
A statement from YG Entertainment yesterday said Seungri will not participate in the upcoming concert as he needs to recuperate.
But at the concert press conference at Resorts World Sentosa yesterday, the stars - including the boys of Big Bang - appeared unaffected by news of the accident.
Arriving at 7.45pm, the idols seemed to be in a good mood as they took questions from the host, laughed and fooled around.
Besides a brief announcement made to address the accident at the beginning of the 30-minute media session, no other questions or comments relating to it were made.
The host had said: "Seungri is unable to come here due to a car accident this morning and he is recovering well in hospital now."
G-Dragon, the leader of Big Bang, was in a jovial mood as he laughed loudly when his fellow member Daesung cracked a joke.
Daesung said: "The last time we were here, we ate a lot of black pepper crabs and chilli crabs and went home walking sideways."
Member T.O.P also seemed to be enjoying himself as he toyed around with the gadgets on the table, and even performed a silly robotic dance.
All the artists expressed happiness at being able to perform on the same stage in Singapore for the first time.
Dara of 2NE1 said: "We do enjoy our own solo concerts but fans get to see a different side of us in this family concert as we have special collaborations with each other on stage that are not seen before."
Taeyang of Big Bang added: "I feel happy as we have never done a tour together with boyband Winner before, and this concert allows us to do that."
Seungri was reported to have been leaving a fashion party at a Gangnam nightclub before the accident.
Earlier Korean media reports said he may have been drunk, but his agency denied it.
Police reports also stated that no signs of alcohol were involved, and the accident is under investigation.
Fans of the idol expressed their concern online, with many asking him to "rest well and recover soon".
Netizen Sisaraventos wrote on a K-pop forum: "I don't know if it's because he was speeding, but really hope he gets well soon."
Another fan Ochan wrote: "Oh my god, I almost had a heart attack reading the headlines. I hope no one is seriously injured, get well soon!"
