Bruno Mars' shout out to 'inspirational' 11-year-old

A young girl survived a horrific car crash that killed her pregnant mother and two sisters in March last year.

The 11-year-old girl who suffered severe head injuries and had to have part of her skull removed pulled through against the odds with the help of the Bruno Mars' music. The accident also severely affected Zumyah Thorpe's motor and language skills.

During her stay in hospital, nurses at the hospital where Zumyah was at played Bruno Mars' music for her every night, an NBC television news affiliate in Ohio, WKYC.com reported.

When Mars' heard of Zumyah's story, he asked to meet her. And when they did, the pop star serenaded her and her family at the private meeting.

Last Saturday (June 28), Zumyah Thorpe was invited to a Bruno Mars concert.

After the show, Mars' posted pictures of him and Zumyah, calling her an "amazing young woman" and "an inspiration to the world".
