5 things about Brenton Thwaites
All movies that fall under the young adult (YA) genre have a prerequisite: a male lead that the fairer sex can drool over.
The Giver's Brenton Thwaites fulfils that - and more. So who is this dashing and photogenic 25-year-old?
1 Like Hugh Jackman and the Hemsworth brothers, Thwaites hails from Down Under - Cairns to be exact.
2 The famous Aussie soap opera Home And Away gave him the break he needed, as it did for Chris Hemsworth, Isla Fisher, Guy Pearce, Naomi Watts, Heath Ledger and Jason Clarke to name a few.
3 Hollywood seems to have a lot of faith in this bronzed newcomer.
After his previous film credits in the made-for-television Blue Lagoon: The Awakening and an Aussie flick called Save Your Legs! in 2012, Thwaites appears in five big films this year.
4 He was Prince Phillip in Angelina Jolie's Maleficent, now he's in The Giver with Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep and Odeya Rush.
Up next are sci-fi thriller The Signal (opening here Sept 4), Son Of A Gun with Ewan McGregor, and Helen Hunt's Ride.
Continuing the run, Thwaites is filming Alex Proyas' Gods Of Egypt, starring Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Geoffrey Rush.
He was linked to The Giver co-star Taylor Swift after being spotted laughing and getting cosy with the singer at last year's Toronto Film Festival. He has since debunked rumours telling People magazine how crazy it is that "the tiniest piece of information can get spread across the world when the right name's involved".
5 Like his character Jonas in The Giver, Thwaites is something of a rebel. He told Refinery 29 that "it's fun to do things your contract says you can't, like go skydiving or surfing".
