I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would want to watch a movie like this.

It's just so sad.

Three rather ghoulish-looking teenagers (James Hamrick, Seth Meriwether and Kristopher Higgins) are charged with the gruesome murder of three little boys.

Everyone assumes they are guilty, but a shrewd private investigator (Colin Firth) isn't so sure.

This tale would be horrifying enough if it were fiction, but unfortunately it's based on a true story.

There are no less than three documentaries devoted to the case, as well as a number of books.

Fortunately, director Atom Egoyan's version is neither as exploitative nor as graphic as it could have been.

That said, it's still so sad.
