Emile Hirsch jailed for choking film exec

US actor Emile Hirsch has pleaded guilty to assaulting a female film executive at Utah’s Sundance Film Festival in January.

The defendant, Paramount Studios executive Daniele Bernfeld, said he had thrown her to the ground and choked her until she blacked out. The assault was unprovoked.

Hirsch, 30, was sentenced to 15 days in jail and 50 hours of community service, and fined US$4,750 (S$6,700).

Lawyers for Hirsch claimed their client was too intoxicated to remember the incident, but he appeared remorseful in court.

“I know it was completely wrong and reckless and irresponsible,” he said.
