Teenagers will love to be Jonas.
He is allowed to lie, retort and ask questions no matter how rude, and he never has to apologise.
Indeed, in the world that Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) lives in, there is no punishment, no pain, no suffering, no hunger.
The catch? There is no love, no freedom, no colour, no emotion.
Fans of Lois Lowry's award-winning young adult novel can breathe a sigh of relief that this movie stays true to the plot.
But whether it conveys the book's philosophical message is a different story.
The good-looking Thwaites and cute Odeya Rush (as Jonas' love interest Fiona) make an adorable couple, and they have strong support from Jeff Bridges as Jonas' mentor.
Taylor Swift makes a decent if obvious cameo teaching Jonas about, yes, music.
