Science made easy with this Theory
I majored in History and Film Studies in university, hence I don't understand how the universe works.
Fortunately, some movies actually teach us science in an easy-to-understand fashion.
Here's everything I now know about science and scientists, thanks to The Theory Of Everything.
1 STARS EMIT UV RADIATION WHEN THEY ARE BORN AND WHEN THEY DIE
While Stephen Hawking is wooing his future wife Jane, he tells her that the night sky is actually filled with stars being born and dying in spectacular bursts of radiation. If we could see UV light, the starry sky would be bright with star explosions. Obviously, this info gets Jane all hot and bothered.
2 BABES LOVE SCIENTISTS
I'm used to women loving me for my body, so it comes as a shock that the babes can also be turned on by a brilliant noggin. Jane sticks with Hawking even after he comes down with Lou Gehrig's Disease, which forces him to spend his life in a wheelchair.
3 THE UNIVERSE BEGAN IN A BLACK HOLE OR SOMETHING
When Hawking is presenting his doctoral thesis, we learn that the universe started when a black hole collapsed. Something to do with a space-time singularity. What this actually means, I couldn't tell you. It's waaaaay too sciencey.
4 APPARENTLY THE UNIVERSE DIDN'T BEGIN WITH A BLACK HOLE
Okay, later in the movie, we learn that the universe didn't start in a black hole, because the universe doesn't have a beginning or an ending. Man, what are we supposed to believe, guys?
5 SCIENTISTS HAVE WOMEN PROBLEMS
Jane becomes extremely friendly with a handsome musician, and of course Hawking must deal with it as gracefully as he can. Just goes to show that even when you're the most brilliant scientist in the world, your happiness will still be subject to the whims of a chick. One might as well just be dumb. It's certainly worked for me.
6 SCIENTISTS CAN BE FAMOUS EVEN AMONGST THE DUMB
When Hawking released his book A Brief History Of Time in 1988, it became a bestseller despite the fact that not many know what he's talking about.
7 WHERE THERE IS LIFE, THERE IS HOPE
Nice to know that despite all of his setbacks, Hawking is still capable of optimism.
