Batman music vid? Super
Our resident Kiss92 DJ/journo goes batty for The Piano Guys
COMMENTARY
Are you a Batman fan?
Of course you are. Everyone's a Batman fan. That's why we show up every time they make a movie about Batman.
We're batty.
Anyway, there's a new video on YouTube that you have to check out, because it's Batman!
It's called Batman Evolution, performed by The Piano Guys, one of my favourite YouTube musicians.
The vid is one of the cutest, coolest and kookiest things you'll see on the Internet all month.
The Piano Guys - Jon Schmidt on piano and Steven Sharp Nelson on cello - basically do a medley of the music from the three eras of Batman.
BATMAN THEME
There's the cheesy dan-na-na-na-nah Batman theme from the 60s TV show.
There's Danny Elfman's dizzying theme from Tim Burton's Caped Crusader back in 1989.
Finally, we come to the very serious-minded score from Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard for Christopher Nolan's more recent Dark Knight films.
Each segment of the video gets its own era-specific look - different settings, outfits, pianos, and cellos.
More importantly, each segment gets its own BATMOBILE.
The Piano Guys are definitely not messing around!
Their vibe may be lighthearted and fun, but they obviously take the work very seriously.
Their performances are polished.
Their vids look professional.
Their efforts have been rewarded with Real Fame, which is so much better than YouTube Fame.
They've released three albums on a major record label. Each topped the Billboard Classical Albums charts.
This October, they have another record coming out, called Wonders.
On a personal note, the thing I love best about The Piano Guys is that they inspired my son to play the cello.
It was their rendition of Coldplay's Paradise that sealed the deal, I think.
The boy likes Coldplay, but he'd never seen a Coldplay song done like this. The African-flavoured vid was shot on some giant tableland in a picturesque desert.
The word that comes to mind is majestic, and that's not one normally associated with YouTube. It beats those to-camera bedroom covers any day.
