'Proposals are special'
Mayday's Monster urges fans to ease off man who interrupted concert to propose
Mayday fans have been raining criticism on a concertgoer who sidetracked the Taiwanese rock band's gig at the Hong Kong Coliseum last week with an attempted proposal to his girlfriend who was with him.
The reason for their fury: The show ended 10 minutes behind time, leaving the event organiser with a late fine of more than HK$10,000 (S$1,770).
But Mayday leader Monster, in a media interview on Monday in Hong Kong, urged fans to go easy on the man, who had suddenly walked out into the aisle and announced that he was going to pop the question, stopping the music during a singalong.
"It was not just because of that incident (that the concert ran late)," said the 39-year-old guitarist, who was speaking at the launch of his latest signature guitar collaboration with US musical instrument manufacturer Gibson.
"I think proposals are special. I hope the couple have good memories of it. I hope people do not keep criticising them," he said.
Monster would know a thing or two about proposals - he announced his marriage to his girlfriend of two years Lu Chih-yingon social media last November.

The couple kept the details of their engagement and wedding private, adding that he and Lu - the sister of bandmate Stone's wife Lu Ting-ying - have no plans yet to start a family.
Monster is the first Chinese signature artist with Gibsonand he unveiled a new signature Monster acoustic guitar at the Causeway Bay HMV bar and restaurant, which was packed with about 100 fans who had queued up to get their own guitars autographed.
Business analyst Cynthia Zhu spent more than US$3,000 (S$4,000) to be at the signing. This included a flight from New York City, where she is based, and took three weeks of leave.
The 26-year-old also lugged her limited-edition Epiphone Mayday Monster Les Paul - a striking red electric guitar that was Monster's second Gibson signature piece - all the way from New York to have it signed by the man himself.
"I love his music, the way he plays," said Miss Zhu, who also bought tickets to four of the 10 concerts that Mayday played in Hong Kong.
"It was from watching him and Mayday that made me want to pick up the guitar."
Mayday will be in Singapore in August for their first concert here in more than three years, as part of their Just Rock It tour.
Monster said: "This concert (in Singapore) has been designed well and we will give a good treat to our Singapore fans."
