NEW FACE 2014: Abby Sompolpong

Abby Sompolpong describes herself as "very outgoing and loud" bookworm. There are books everywhere in the 19-year-old's home

She said: "In the living room, there are books. In the bedrooms, there are books."

Abby has been an avid reader since primary school, when she first told her mother, an English teacher, that she wanted to read as much as her parents.

"She'd buy me Enid Blyton books instead of toys as gifts," said Abby.

Her father is Thai and her mother is a Chinese Singaporean. Abby was born in Singapore but lived in Phuket before she entered primary school.

"My parents have taught me the value of money," she said. "The moment I was old enough to work, I took on waitressing.

"I try to save as much as I can and I'm not taking an allowance from my parents as I feel I should not burden them any more."

Her more recent jobs have been at events, where she learnt she "can't please everyone".

"If people don't like the product I'm selling, I can't force them to buy it. When I'm scolded, I don't go home and cry, I just take it in and try my best from there."
