New Face 2014: Syiqah

Syiqah Marican makes her own organic skin and hair products.

She was inspired by Australian model Miranda Kerr, who launched Kora Organics — a brand of organic skincare products — in 2009.

“I realised it was something I could try,” she explained. “I like to research ways to make myself and others look and feel better.”

The 19-year-old, who works at i-Science — which supplies laboratory equipment — said with a laugh: “Who knows, I might have my own skincare line one day.”

For a start, Syiqah makes organic hair masks for her mother and younger sister. She even shares the recipes for these hair masks with her friends.

She also blogs about what she’s learnt about skincare and enjoys watching YouTube tutorials on how to make homemade beauty products.

To improve her complexion, Syiqah applies a mixture of vitamin E, almond oil and grapeseed oil on her face three times a week.

She also leaves a mixture of jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil and castor oil in her hair when she sleeps.

“Sometimes I add a little peppermint so that my scalp feels cool,” she said.

On Oct 2, one young woman will be named The New Paper New Face 2014. She wins $10,000 cash and a feature in Her World magazine.
