Shakira, Santana, samba for World Cup closing ceremony

Colombian star Shakira, Mexican guitarist Carlos Santana, Brazilian singer Ivete Sangalo and a samba school will lead the musical entertainment at Sunday’s World Cup closing ceremony.

The show will start at 1.30am (Singapore time), an hour and a half before Argentina and Germany emerge to do battle at the Maracana stadium in Rio.

Also on the bill are Haitian hip hop star Wyclef Jean and Brazilian singer Alexandre Pires, who will sing the theme tune Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way) as fans pour into the venue for the trophy match.

Following the opening song, Shakira, performing at her third World Cup, will bound on stage to sing La la la (Brazil 2014) alongside home favorite Carlinhos Brown.

“Hi Brazil, here I am, miss you. very happy to see you again! Shak,” Shakira wrote on Twitter Friday in Portuguese after arriving in the country with baby son Milan Pique, whose dad is Spain star Gerard Pique.

Four years ago in South Africa, Shakira had them on their feet with Waka Waka and four years earlier in Germany she wowed fans with Hips Don’t Lie.

Sangalo will meanwhile offer a mix of pop songs from her country while fans will also be regaled by famous samba school Academicos do Grande Rio before kick-off.

Trophy

The champions will meanwhile receive the trophy from Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

Before the game former Barcelona star Carles Puyol and Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen will present the trophy at the stadium.

Security will be the tightest Brazil has ever seen with 26,000 police and security agents on duty across the city.

The opening ceremony on June 12 at Sao Paulo’s Corinthians Arena starred US-Cuban rapper Pitbull, US singer Jennifer Lopez and Brazil’s Claudia Leitte.
