Sharapova zooms into Wimbledon in supercar
Tennis star Maria Sharapova arrived at a Wimbledon party on Thursday in a Porsche supercar that travels twice as fast as her serve.
Mail Online reported that she turned up at the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) pre-Wimbledon Party in West London in a Porsche 918 Spyder, one of the fastest cars on the planet.
The French Open winner's chauffeur was somebody who is no stranger to speed himself - forrmer F1 racing driver Australian Mark Webber.
The futuristic-looking electric car costs a cool £700,000 (S$1.4 million) and hits speeds up to 344 kmh.
It can accelerate from 0 to 96.5 kmh in just 2.5 sec. Only 918 Spyders are in production worldwide, reported London Evening Standard.
The Porsche 918 Spyder is also environmentally friendly because it can run on both petrol and electric power – or a combination of the two.
Great way to arrive
Sharapova, a "Porsche Ambassador" said as she arrived at the event: "What a fantastic way to arrive at the party."
"To be in the fastest Porsche with a racing driver like Mark is amazing.
"And it’s great to be driving in a city like London running only on electric power – it’s an unbelievable car."
