Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg has started what may be world's largest, most ambitious book club

Have you decided what you want to accomplish in 2015?

While us mere mortals mull over flimsy New Year's resolutions about losing weight and exercising, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg has decided upon one that would put many of us to shame.

To read a new book every other week, with an emphasis on learning about different cultures, beliefs, histories and technologies.

But one would expect nothing less from the chief executive officer of a billion-dollar company.

With that announcement, Mr Zuckerberg has created what could possibly be the world's largest book club.

Mr Zuckerberg had sought input from the Facebook community for his personal challenge for the new year.

He said in a post on Dec 31, 2014: "I'm crowdsourcing ideas for my next year's personal challenge. For background, every year I take on a challenge to broaden my perspective and learn something about the world beyond my work at Facebook."

Some of his past challenges include learning to speak Mandarin, meeting a new person who doesn't work at Facebook every day, writing a thank you note each day to someone who made the world better, being a vegetarian (or only eating meat if he killed the animal himself) and wearing a tie every day.

Mr Zuckerberg received over 50,000 suggestions for his 2015 resolution.

And the man decided that 2015 would be the year of books.

Of course, the social media-savvy CEO invited the rest of the world to join his virtual book club.

"If you want to follow along on my challenge and read the same books I do, I've created a page, A Year of Books, where I'll post what I'm reading," he said in a post on Saturday (Jan 3).

The page already has more than 125,000 likes.

If you haven't decided on a resolution, you may want to join this book club.

If not for the opportunity to broaden your mind, than perhaps for the chance of conversing with one of this generation's most successful Internet entrepreneurs.
