Planning a Chinese New Year meal at the very last minute?
Living on the edge is fun for some, but if you're in a panic, here are some suggestions.
STEAMBOAT AT HUA TING (above)
Instead of having steamboat at home, head to Hua Ting Steamboat (Claymore Connect, the former Orchard Hotel Shopping Arcade, Tel: 6739-6628).
Three set menus are available, from $88 a person, featuring items such as sliced Japanese wagyu beef, scallops and handmade pumpkin fish paste noodles.
Choices of soup base include tomato soup with century egg and coriander, and shark's bone cartilage soup.
The Chinese New Year menus are available till Feb 14.
TAKEAWAY REUNION DINNER
If you need to whip up a reunion meal in a hurry, cheat.
Get the Red House Seafood Reunion Takeaway Tiffin Set ($188). It's good for six and you'll get four items, such as sauteed Trio of Seafood with Pineapple and braised pork belly.
Call the Prinsep Street outlet (Tel: 6336-6080) or The Quayside outlet (Tel: 6735-7666) to order.
BUFFET SPREAD AT SENTOSA
This Sunday and Monday at Silver Shell Cafe (Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Tel: 6371-1966), you can have your reunion dinner by the sea with a buffet spread of classics such as suckling pig, sauteed tiger prawns and seafood on ice.
Each table also gets a lo hei platter.
It's at $98, and served between 6pm and 10pm.
EGG CAKE FROM CRYSTAL JADE
I'm including this because sometimes you'll just have to produce a gift when you're invited to a meal - and you cannot go wrong with this egg cake ($19.80) from Crystal Jade.
This steamed cake is also a personal favourite so I often keep a few of these around. Call 6512-0833 to order.
