IT WAS just three years ago that Siti Zahidah Fadil decided she was going to be a singer-songwriter.
In that time, she’s landed some pretty sweet gigs, opening for acts like US indie rockers Copeland and Australian YouTube stars Jayesslee.
She was named the Next Big Thing by local radio station 987FM last year, and, together with local pop-rock act The Lion Story, pipped Singapore Idol winners Hady Mirza and Sezairi Sezali to win Best Singapore Song at last year’s Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM) with their collaboration Lagu Teman.
Zahidah, 22, plays at the University Cultural Centre this Friday as part of the ExxonMobil Campus Concerts series alongside other local singer-songwriters Inch Chua and Maricelle Wong.
Just last month, she released her debut five-track EP Ethereal.
Zahidah attributes part of her success to the “magic of the Internet”
