Where are the fashion highs and lows? Hollywood is going middle-of-the-road this week
EMILY RATAJKOWSKI (B+)
Premiere of We Are Your Friends in London
Gown: David Koma
Clutch: Monique Lhuillier
Shoes: Giuseppe Zanotti
Now that Cara Delevingne is done promoting Paper Towns, it is up to the other model-turned-actress Ratajkowski to fill the eye candy void. This fab electric blue beaded number should be hanging in every girl's closet, for those days when you want to appear taller and slimmer.
JACQUI AINSLEY (B)
Premiere of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. in London
Gown: Temperley London
Looks like director Guy Ritchie's baby mama, who wed him last month, is still in bridal mode. No complaints here, though - I'd want to get married in this romantic embroidered beauty, too.
KERI RUSSELL (B)
Television Critics Association Awards in Los Angeles
Gown: Zuhair Murad
Let's just say the make-up and hairstyling need to catch up with the luxe quality of the gown, but from the neck down, it is nicely done.
ELIZABETH DEBICKI (C+)
Premiere of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. in New York City
Gown: Valentino
For someone who showed such sartorial sass in The Great Gatsby movie, Debicki is sucking the life out of this ethereal frock. Even the deep-V neckline can't save her flat, tepid effort.
MELANIE BROWN (B-)
America's Got Talent Season 10 taping in New York City
Dress: Not known
Who are you and what have you done with Scary Spice? Without an ounce of "scary" or "spicy" in this elegant bodycon LWD with sheer panels, Brown is almost unrecognisable. I have never seen her in anything covered-up or with clean lines, but I am liking this new direction.
EMMY ROSSUM (D)
CBS/CW/Showtime Television Critics Association party in Los Angeles
Dress: Alessandra Rich
Clutch: Jimmy Choo
Shoes: Aquazurra
I am not sure what disturbs me more about this display of ruched, ruffled frippery - that I am thinking Hannibal Lecter flayed her chest on the way over, or that the front part vaguely resembles female genitalia. Either way, I may need therapy.
WHO WORE IT BETTER?
Can you smell the desperation in the air around these two? Their tacky, try-hard Fausto Puglisi sunburst embellished dresses, with excessive splicing, exist for the sole reason to show off maximum boobs, tummy and legs. I'll give the win to Klum, though, for at least sparing us her belly button.
RITA ORA
Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, May 17
HEIDI KLUM
America's Got Talent Season 10 taping in New York City, Aug 11
MOST IMPROVED
ALICIA VIKANDER
Vikander has been hailed as Hollywood's latest It girl, but you wouldn't know it from her first showing - a totally unremarkable black printed maxi. She is only starting to dress like a rising star with her latest get-up. Those brown leather harness straps around her waist are odd to say the least, but at least she dared to go there and is almost pulling it off.
Premiere of Testament Of Youth in New York City, June 2
Gown: Louis Vuitton
Premiere of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. in New York City, Aug 10
Gown: Louis Vuitton
SPECIAL MAN-TION
ARMIE HAMMER
Premiere of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. in New York City
Suit: Tom Ford
Light-coloured suits still don't get enough play, even in the summer. Fortunately, handsome Hammer does this refreshing beige linen version justice - and then some.
"I just roll out of bed and am basically in my pyjamas! I have to have those days, though. It’s just too intense not to."
