Movie Review: Only You (PG13)
I'm all for Chinese remakes of Hollywood films.
Remember What Women Want, starring Andy Lau and Gong Li? It was enjoyable and on par with the Mel Gibson-Helen Hunt original.
Only You, however, is a lacklustre effort.
Despite being billed as a rom-com, it lacks the charming, whimsical vibe of the 1994 version with Robert Downey Jr and Marisa Tomei.
Bride-to-be Fang Yuan (Tang Wei), a sucker for fortune-tellers' predictions, ditches her fiancé and flies to Milan in search of a man, Song Kunming (Liao Fan), who, she believes, is her destined one.
Tang and Liao have previously proven themselves to be excellent actors, but for some odd reason, they share zero chemistry together. Very disappointing.
