Movie Review: THE ROAD WITHIN (M18)
What happens when you put an anorexic girl, a guy with Tourette's syndrome and one who suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) together?
A journey to self-discovery and acceptance.
That's what debut film-maker Gren Wells attempts in this coming-of-age drama.
Tourette's-stricken teenager Vincent (Robert Sheehan) is sent to an institution after the death of his mother, who was his main caregiver.
There, Vincent befriends cynical anorexic Marie (Zoe Kravitz) and tries to put up with his OCD-diagnosed roommate Alex (Dev Patel). The trio embark on a road trip to spread Vincent's mother's ashes in the ocean.
The story and direction could have been handled much, much better.
But the three leads' arresting performances will stop you from walking out of the cinema hall.
