Movie Review: Stonewall (R21)
Director Roland Emmerich certainly uses artistic licence to depict the 1969 Stonewall Riots that sparked the fight for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights in the US.
Danny (Jeremy Irvine), a small-town boy, is kicked out of home after his father-cum-football coach discovers his tryst with the quarterback.
He goes to New York and hooks up with homeless drag queens in Greenwich Village, embracing his new life with abandon.
It would've been slightly better if Emmerich had cast Jonny Beauchamp, who is magnetic as the flamboyant Ray, as the lead.
I don't know the event and I learned nothing except that Emmerich - who helmed blockbusters Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012 - is no storyteller.
