Chili Peppers Fight On
Our resident Kiss92 DJ/journo sends good vibes towards Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, who is in hospital just as the band's new album is set for release
Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer of Red Hot Chili Peppers, is in hospital.
The 53-year-old is apparently suffering through a very bad stomach flu, and the US rock band have already had to cancel two concerts.
Obviously, fans are on pins and needles, as it hasn't exactly been a healthy year for rock stars.
Lemmy, David Bowie, Prince, Glenn Frey - we've seen one music icon after another fall over the past few months.
SHAME
Here's hoping that Kiedis gets well soon. It is actually quite a shame that he is on MC at this particular time, as the Chili Peppers are storming back with a brand new record, The Getaway, which comes out next month.
Their last album, I'm With You, came out way back in 2011.
It was a huge success, spawning the No. 1 single The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie.
The Getaway is something of a departure for the Chili Peppers, as they are taking a break from long-time producer Rick Rubin, who has been recording their music since 1989, including their 1991 mega-hit Under The Bridge, but Kiedis and company obviously thought it was time for some new blood.
Their new producer is Danger Mouse, the beloved musician-songwriter-producer who has been nominated for 18 Grammys and won five.
The first single off The Getaway is Dark Necessities, a sort of jazzy, slow-burning ode to dangerous dudes.
"Yeah, you don't know my mind / You don't know my kind / Dark necessities are part of my design / Tell the world that I'm falling from the sky / Dark necessities are part of my design."
There is a sinewy sexiness to it, a certain silky shimmer, more vibey than funky.
Some of the other tracks sound similarly shadowy and romantic, with titles such as We Turn Red, Goodbye Angels, Feasting On The Flowers and Dreams Of A Samurai.
The cover for The Getaway is aces: A little girl strolling down a city street accompanied by a bear, a raccoon and a crow.
It is perfect, as these fellas have always walked on the wild side.
I just hope they look out for themselves and one another, so they can walk a little farther.
