Relax! One Direction is not breaking up

Fans of One Direction can possibly sleep better tonight.

Niall Horan, 21, took to Twitter to clarify the rumours, reassuring fans that the group are "not splitting up".

The popular boy band, however, will be "taking a well-earned break at some point next year".

Fellow band-mate Louis Tomlinson, 23, also promised via Twitter there would be no break-up.

News of One Direction's "hiatus" came as a shock to fans around the world as it hit just days after the release of their new single, Drag Me Down, on Aug 20.

Making matters worse, it was announced that the group, now comprising Horan, Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Harry Styles, would not be be touring to promote their fifth album, which will be released at Christmas.

While Reuters reported that a Sony Music representative for the British boy band declined to comment on the status of 1D, the 23-million Horan followers on Twitter can take heart that their idols will still be making music together. At some point.

In the meantime, it's business as usual for the guys, who are currently on tour in the US.

According to E! News, concert-goers at the Chicago performance on Sunday (Aug 23) said the members didn't address taking any time off during their sold-out show.

In fact, Payne enthusiastically talked about the upcoming album and Drag Me Down.

The group's last scheduled stadium concert will be in Sheffield, England on Oct 31.
