The rock song was taken from Reckless, the Canadian singer's fourth album which sold over five million units in the US alone. It was his first No. 1 when it topped the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart, and also peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Adams and Jim Vallance originally wrote Run To You for US rock band Blue Oyster Cult, but the group turned it down.

The music video directed by Steve Barron was nominated at the 1985 MTV Video Music Awards in five different categories. While it didn't win any, it received more MTV Video Music Award nominations than any other Adams song.

In December 1984, Adams embarked on a two-year world tour to promote Reckless, which was the first Canadian album to sell more than a million units in Canada. It also reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and produced equally popular signature singles like Heaven and Summer Of '69.

On Oct 16, Adams, 55, released Get Up, his first album of all-new material since 11 in 2008. It was co-written by longtime collaborator Vallance and produced by Jeff Lynne.

Adams described it as carefree, rocking and retro sounding, and the ideal follow-up record to Reckless, reported Reuters.

He told the Toronto Star: "When I think about the trilogy (of albums) You Want It You Got It, Cuts Like A Knife and Reckless, those records have a real unity to them. These songs could have been on the same record. I feel I could have slotted this album in right after Reckless."

Adams has also lined up an extensive tour some time next year to promote Get Up.
